Hello, Mr. Brevoort! Did you guys at Marvel ever thought such an ''out there'' character like Thor would become so successful? With TDW being a blockbuster, his franchise has surpassed the $1B. Do you think the comercial success changes the way creators look at him? Thanks!
Well, you’re talking about 1962, and I expect that Lee and Kirby had the same expectation of success with Thor that they did for any of the other characters they were introducing. And for the first decade or so, THOR was the third-most-popular Marvel series, behind AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and FANTASTIC FOUR. So it’s no great surprise that he’s lasted as long as he has. As for the films, sure, the success of the movies is great, but it doesn’t really change all that much in terms of how we perceive the characters, i don’t think—we liked ‘em even before they were household names!
